Langdale Berth 1 Life Extension Project
As part of BC Ferries’ ongoing commitment to safe, reliable, and efficient ferry service, we are planning necessary upgrades to aging infrastructure at Langdale terminal. These improvements will help extend the life of Berth 1 and support the future needs of the communities we serve. This work is part of the Horseshoe Bay / Langdale Infrastructure Program and will take place in late 2026 and early 2027.

Project Updates
Langdale terminal plays a vital role in connecting the Sunshine Coast to the Lower Mainland. It supports essential travel for residents, visitors, goods, and services, and is a key part of the region’s transportation network.
► About the project
The Berth 1 life extension project will start in late 2026 and will be complete in early spring 2027.
This will involve construction completed between sailings and at night; however, Berth 1 will be closed for three weeks in February 2027 (dates to be confirmed). The closure will enable some existing structures to be serviced or removed, and new structures constructed and installed in their place. The construction and berth closure work has been scheduled in the winter to avoid busy travel periods.
An alternative service plan will be in place to ensure service levels are sustained at Langdale.
► About the alternative service plan
An alternative service plan will be in place to ensure service is continued at Langdale during the Berth 1 closure.
- Sailings will load and unload using Berth 2
- This berth only has single-level loading
- This berth only has single-level loading
- Two-ship sailing schedule will be implemented
- Two ships will run between the first sailing of the day and 7:00 p.m., seven days a week
- Wait times between sailings will be reduced
- Two-ship sailings will provide slightly higher service level (capacity) throughout the day compared to the current service level
Information for customers
Depending on the route you use, schedule changes due to the Langdale Berth 1 Life Extension Project and alternative service plan will differ. Please find your route to learn more.
► Langdale - Horseshoe Bay
At Langdale terminal, Berth 1 will be closed for three weeks in February 2027 (dates to be confirmed). During this time, all sailings will load and unload using Berth 2, which only has single-level loading.
During the berth closure, a two-ship schedule will be in effect, seven days a week to ensure:
- Close to hourly service between Langdale and Horseshoe Bay starting with the first sailing of the day until 19:00
- Existing capacity will be slightly increased across two sailings
We thank you for your patience as we undertake this important work at Langdale to ensure continued safe and reliable operations across our network.
► Departure Bay - Horseshoe Bay
While the majority of schedule changes from the Langdale Berth 1 life extension construction and the alternative service plan will be felt by customers traveling between Langdale and Horseshoe Bay, there are impacts to certain sailings between Departure Bay and Horseshoe Bay.
When the two-ship service goes into effect between Langdale and Horseshoe Bay during the Berth 1 closure, a vessel normally servicing the Departure Bay route will be diverted. This will impact the following sailings:
Horseshoe Bay to Departure Bay:
- There will be no 06:15 sailings from Horseshoe Bay.
- The first scheduled sailing from Horseshoe Bay to Departure Bay will be at 08:35
Need to be in Nanaimo early in the morning?
- Customers can take the 05:15 or the 07:45 Tsawwassen to Duke Point sailings, Monday to Saturday.
- Schedules can be found here:
Departure Bay to Horseshoe Bay:
- After the 16:00 sailing has left Departure Bay to Horseshoe Bay, the next sailing will be at 20:30
- Customers looking to travel in the evening have the option to take the:
- 17:45 Duke Point to Tsawwassen daily
- 20:15 Duke Point to Tsawwassen Sunday to Friday.
- Schedules can be found here:
We thank you for your patience as we undertake this important work at Langdale to ensure continued safe and reliable operations across our network.
► Earls Cove - Saltery Bay
While the majority of schedule changes from the Langdale life extension construction and the alternative service plan will be felt by customers traveling between Langdale and Horseshoe Bay, there are some impacts for customers traveling to and from Powell River to the Lower Mainland.
At Langdale terminal, Berth 1 will be closed for three weeks in February 2027 (dates to be confirmed). During this time, all sailings will load and unload using Berth 2, which only has single-level loading.
During the berth closure, a two-ship schedule will be in effect seven days a week to ensure:
- Close to hourly service between Langdale and Horseshoe Bay starting with the first sailing of the day until 19:00
- Existing capacity will be slightly increased across two sailings
Connectivity to Powell River:
- The Earls Cove – Saltery Bay route has been adjusted to connect with the Queen of Surrey's main car deck only schedule.
- Customers connecting to/from sailings on the Queen of Oak Bay will have longer waits since these sailings are not timed to connect with the Earls Cove – Saltery Bay sailings.
- The 19:05 sailings from Horseshoe Bay will be the last northbound connection to the Earls Cove – Saltery Bay route.
- Customers wishing to reach Powell River would need to ensure they are on the 19:05 sailing from Horseshoe Bay in order to connect to the 22:00 sailing from Earls Cove.
We thank you for your patience as we undertake this important work at Langdale to ensure continued safe and reliable operations across our network.
