Blubber Bay Life Extension Project
Blubber Bay Terminal on Texada Island plays a vital role in connecting Powell River to Texada Island. It supports essential travel for residents, visitors, goods, and services. As part of BC Ferries’ ongoing commitment to safe, reliable, and efficient ferry service, we are planning necessary infrastructure upgrades to aging infrastructure at Blubber Bay Terminal.
Planning for this work is underway, and this page will be home for updates on project timelines, scope and any potential service impacts.

This work is part of BC Ferries’ Blubber Bay Terminal Life Extension Project, which will help maintain safe, reliable ferry service on Route 18 over the long term.
Construction is planned during the off‑season, when travel demand is typically lower, and is expected to take place between fall 2026 and winter 2027. More details will be shared as planning progresses.
What Does This Mean for the Community?
This project is focused on extending the life of existing infrastructure. However, an extended terminal closure will not be required. While no extended full terminal closures will be required, some temporary service adjustments, including a one day and a four-day temporary berth closure, may be required. The timing and duration of any potential changes are still being explored and could include a short berth closure and limited late‑evening sailing cancellations. However, no decisions have been finalized.
During construction, some temporary service adjustments may be required. An alternate service plan is currently being developed to help manage impacts and support continued access and travel for residents, commuters, and commercial users.
Our goal is to carefully plan the work to minimize impacts wherever possible, while continuing to support safe and dependable ferry service for the Texada Island community.
Community Engagement
Connecting with the community is an important part of this project. This summer, our Community Relations team plans to visit Texada Island to share information, answer questions, and hear your feedback. More details about community engagement will be shared here on the project page.
