Westview Terminal with the Salish Orca in dock.

In November 2019, our Terminal Development team along with key staff from across BC Ferries began creating a Terminal Development Plan (TDP) for the Westview terminal. The TDP is an important planning document that lays out a long-term vision for future terminal upgrades.

Developing a TDP is a highly collaborative process, and involves working with staff, stakeholders, communities and First Nations to:

  • Identify key issues and opportunities
  • Develop conceptual options for the terminal
  • Refine and identify a preferred concept(s) to guide future upgrades

Current status: The Terminal Development Plan has been refined and the preferred concept has been included in the plan. Please read below for further details.

The Westview Terminal Development Plan was internally endorsed in the fall of 2021. Our teams continue to work with local First Nations and stakeholders on future redevelopment projects at the terminal and required approvals. The purpose of this TDP is to set out the long-term vision for the future of this important terminal by providing the framework for the phased implementation of strategies and actions over the next 25 years. This will enable BC Ferries to develop the terminal in a cost effective, organized and efficient way. In developing this TDP we engaged with customers and the community, the Northern Sunshine Coast Ferry Advisory Committee (FAC), First Nations, government stakeholders, and employees. We considered the input and refined the concepts into a preferred concept that is included in the TDP.

Thank you to everyone who provided input on our draft terminal design concepts. Both the short and long-term concepts were generally well received with some valuable considerations being raised regarding pedestrian routes and access to the nearby Wharfinger.

Key themes we heard in the feedback included:

    Short-term Terminal Design Concept

    • Addresses most issues
    • Pedestrian safety and connectivity raised as an important consideration for the proposed crosswalk at the ticket booths and the proposed walking route
    • Future electrification considerations were also raised including the desire for electric vehicle charging and accommodations for future vessel electrification

    Long Term Concept

    • Two-lane loading seen as a valuable change
    • Maintaining easy access to/from the Wharfinger Commercial Dock was raised as an important consideration to ensure unimpeded use of this important community area

We are now drafting the full Terminal Development Plan and look forward to sharing it with you once it has been approved. Please stay tuned to this page!
