Engagement Summary and Update

Thank you to everyone who attended the in-person engagement session at the Mayne Island Community Centre on September 28, 2025. During the session attended by 44 people, we provided an overview of the project and draft information around the alternate schedule and service plan.

This information session was promoted in the community through posters, print ads, social media, and on vessels.

Key Themes

During discussions around the alternate schedule, some key themes emerged:

  • The importance of sharing the schedule early to support customer planning.

  • To inform communities across the Southern Gulf Islands network about the schedule shifts to accommodate this critical work.

Summary of Information

Timeline:

  • Berth 1 closure: January 5 – March 1, 2026 (8 weeks)

  • Construction period: 16 weeks total, with work expected to wrap up by end of April 2026

During the closure, Berth 2 will remain open to support Southern Gulf Islands (SGI) sailings. A revised sailing schedule will be in effect to help minimize congestion at Village Bay.

The construction contract has been awarded, and the contractor is preparing to start building offsite before construction begins in January. Schedule updates are being finalized and will be posted on the BC Ferries website in early November.

Next Steps and Communication

Our project team is now focused on preparing for the upcoming Berth 1 work. We will continue to share updates as the project advances — both here on the project page and within your community.

Thank you again to everyone who participated. Your input is invaluable, and we look forward to sharing more information about the schedule across communities soon.
