Neighbourhood Check-in Fall 2023
22 days agoWe want to know what is important to you, and your community.
As we continue to work on building the connection between communities and BC Ferries, our goal is to create opportunities to collaborate and hold meaningful conversations. One of the ways we are doing this is through our community drop-in sessions. These sessions are a chance for us to hear directly from those who live, work and play in the communities we serve, and for community members to connect with us face-to-face.
We understand not everyone is able to attend the upcoming drop-in on Wednesday, September 20 between 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm at the Gibsons Public Market in person. Therefore, this page is available as another opportunity to provide us with your questions, comments, and topics that you would like to discuss. Leave your feedback below, or 'like' other community members' posts to help us shape our conversations.
Please note:
Thank you for participating. Please be aware we will not be responding to questions or posts left on this board directly. If you have specific questions and would like to speak with one of our team members, please send your question to engagement@bcferries.com
As a reminder. we are committed to providing a safe and respectful environment and one that allows everyone an equal opportunity to participate. Any disrespectful or abusive comments will be taken down. This website is moderated 24/7 by an expert global moderation team from Bang the Table. To learn more visit Moderation Policy.

Fire Guy13 days agoRational, feasible, and timely solutions are needed. BCF has kicked the can down the road to the end. Being a better employer is a start.
This is not a "Gibsons ferry". Do not allow the blindered residents of the southernmost area to make it worse for the rest of us. The economy of the coast is tourism based. We need reservations but we also need flexibility. One 50% reservable ferry followed by an open ferry was a good idea, but then you took away the second boat and chaos reigns. While most residents refuse to differentiate between strategic and tactical issues, BCF must. The first and easiest place to start is by improving and stabilizing your staffing issue. I realize a new ferry is a huge step expense but we are stuck in-between right now with too little demand for 2 boats all the time and throttled by only one boat most of the time. A fix has been promised and them postponed for over a decade. It is time to think at the strategic level and not just at the tactical single-vessel viability scale. This "highway" belongs to everybody.

Public/private partnership is a huge fail for ferry dependent communities! We once had 2 ships and reliable ferry service! The ferry system is a leg of our highway system. Missed medical appointments! Being stranded in Horseshoe Bay overnight sleeping in my car because I can't afford a hotel! I CAN'T GET HOME. I haven't seen my family members in over a year because of delays and cancellations. BC Ferries nor our provincial government give a damn about the hardships coastal residents are suffering because tourist dollars matter more than ferry dependent communities.
2 comments7Bob19 days agoBathrooms and communication
Waiting many hours before the cashier booth in horseshoe bay is inhumane. There are no bathrooms the sun is full strength in the afternoon and disabled patrons need to find a way to get down the hill, past the cashier booth and back up if they need to go to the bathroom. Furthermore there is never any communication or indication of how long people will need to wait there. This is added stress not knowing if cars will move while you take the long hike to the washrooms. On august 30 i was over 3 hours in the upper part of the lot before the cashier booth. At one point a neighbhoring car unloaded their wheelchair and then cars started moving so they quickly loaded it back up to find out that it was just a car leaving the waiting lineup. Communication can really help. Also there is no means of leaving that lineup if you in the middle. We all know as a Sunshine Coast resident that we are gonna wait longer than the schedule even if the stats say the ferry is almost never late or full, we know that stats doesnt reflect the sunshine coast, so please put in a bathroom/outhouse halfway up the hill before the cashiers or find a way for passengers to park somewhere where they know they will be safe for a while. Even communicating to the waiting crowd when the booth will open again would go a very very long way. The easiest fix for all complains would be more runs or bigger boats...
1 comment5Charlotte14 days agoThe Sunshine Coast needs 2 ferries from HB to Langdale. 6 hr waits are unacceptable! Holding cars outside the booth is inhumane.
Stop holding us hostage!
0 comment4Cherie21 days agoThere needs to be a priority for locals. Lives of the locals should not be negatively impacted when their highway is flooded with tourists.
Locals matter

We want tourists, but bc ferries’ job is to provide a service to residents who pay taxes. Take the millions you spend on advertising and buy another ferry.

So many ferries cancelled due to lack of staffing. Better attract and retain staff through things like above living-wage increases, housing assistance, more time off, etc. Invest in a better "Current Conditions" app. It currently cannot be relied on.

Your Ferry Advisory Committee
Southern Sunshine Coast
Chair: Diana Mumford - mumford@telus.net
604-836-9651
BC Ferries is fortunate to be able to work with 13 Ferry Advisory Committees (FAC) located in communities up and down the coast of British Columbia. These committees are typically made up of 8-12 volunteer members who represent the ferry-dependent communities we serve. Ferry Advisory Committees play a fundamental role in facilitating information sharing between communities and BC Ferries. The committees provide important advice and insight that helps inform day-to-day operations, terminal and vessel improvements, schedule changes, and other initiatives.
