Welcome to Hornby Island's Community Page!
This page is a space for community members and those that travel on the route to offer suggestions, comments and questions to the BC Ferries team to help shape our community drop-in sessions. You can also provide feedback via written comment cards available at the terminal.
The input you provide will help us determine the topics that are of most interest to your community so we can bring answers, information, and topics for dialogue when we're in your neighbourhood next.
Dates of community drop-in sessions will be listed in the 'Key Dates' section on the right-hand side of this page.

As we continue to work on building the connection between communities and BC Ferries, our goal is to create opportunities to collaborate and hold meaningful conversations. One of the ways we are doing this is through our community drop-in sessions. These sessions are a chance for us to hear directly from those who live, work and play in the communities we serve, and for community member to connect with us face-to-face.
As we understand not everyone is able to attend in person, this page is available as another opportunity to provide us with your questions, comments, and topics that you would like discussed. Leave your feedback below, or 'like' other community members' posts to help us shape our conversations.
Please note:
Thank you for participating. Please be aware we will not be responding to questions or posts left on this board directly. If you have specific questions and would like to speak with one of our team members, please send your question to engagement@bcferries.com

0 comment11Karen Rossover 1 year ago2600+ people signed a petition this summer, for improved service capacity on Routes 21 and 22. Action is needed now!
The weight carrying capacity of the Kahloke, on Route 22, was reduced almost a year ago. When will service levels be reinstated? Prior to that, Route 22 already had the worst performance metrics in the entire minor route fleet. The problem of lack of capacity should have been addressed years ago!
0 comment9Nomadover 1 year agoMake Route 22 Quinitsa's Point Of Assembly before 2023.
Census Records show Hornby Island population with a 20% increase, yet we are saddled with the Kahloke, that has served Route 22 for decades. Adding to it's "Past It's Best Before Date" it now has a rollback of car deck weight due to mandated weight restrictions. Not my words, but those in the know have labelled Route 22 as the worst served Route in the entire Fleet. With these restrictions, with no guarantee of getting aboard the Sailing that would be appropriate, Medical Appointments etc. and other time sensitive reasons to travel on or off Vancouver Island are next to impossible to assure attendance.
0 comment5bweissover 1 year agomaybe give locals more then 60/45 minutes to talk to you?? This short time is ridiculous.
0 comment5SMorissetteover 1 year agoNeed much better service and/or possibly reservations
It would be great if we were not stranded on the island all summer long due to the gong show of 4 - 5 sailing waits. It would also be great if you could reliably get to medical appointments in a timely manner.

Your Ferry Advisory Committee
Denman - Hornby
Chair: Karen Ross - karenross@telus.net
BC Ferries is fortunate to be able to work with 13 Ferry Advisory Committees (FAC) located in communities up and down the coast of British Columbia. These committees are typically made up of 8-12 volunteer members who represent the ferry-dependent communities we serve. Ferry Advisory Committees play a fundamental role in facilitating information sharing between communities and BC Ferries. The committees provide important advice and insight that helps inform day-to-day operations, terminal and vessel improvements, schedule changes, and other initiatives.
