As we continue to work on building the connection between communities and BC Ferries, our goal is to create opportunities to collaborate and hold meaningful conversations. One of the ways we are doing this is through our community drop-in sessions. These sessions are a chance for us to hear directly from those who live, work and play in the communities we serve, and for community member to connect with us face-to-face.
As we understand not everyone is able to attend in person, this page is available as another opportunity to provide us with your questions, comments, and topics that you would like discussed. Leave your feedback below, or 'like' other community members' posts to help us shape our conversations.
Please note:
Thank you for participating. Please be aware we will not be responding to questions or posts left on this board directly. If you have specific questions and would like to speak with one of our team members, please send your question to engagement@bcferries.com
As a reminder. we are committed to providing a safe and respectful environment and one that allows everyone an equal opportunity to participate. For your consideration: 1-Let go of the cable ferry. It’s an idea that didn’t work 2-The ferry between Buckley Bay and Denman Island is there to service both Hornby and Denman equally. More consideration needs to be given to Hornby residents who are often left behind on Denman due to the cable ferry already filled with Denman residents. We have far less trips on the Hornby schedule and getting in to town to run errands and go to appointments requires time. Having to sit for at least an hour on Denman is inconsiderate. Since it’s quite common to be left behind on the 8:40, 9:40 and 10:40 make those runs into mandatory shuttling. 3-consider making the senior discount every day of the week for Denman and Hornby residents. This could lessen the pressure on traffic from Mon-Thurs. 4-Increase the size of the ferries which service our community. We are almost equal in population density and numbers are increasing not decreasing, in step with the population in general. 5. Because the Hornby community is often underserved yet pays the same fares for both islands, consider a system that discounts the second trip. Buses have transfers, we should have some kind of accommodation. 6. Safety when crossing Denman is a huge issue. By putting in place some of these measures it could alleviate the necessity that some people feel to speed. I personally had my car totalled and was very lucky that other vehicles weren’t involved.

Your Ferry Advisory Committee
Denman - Hornby
Chair: Karen Ross - karenross@telus.net
BC Ferries is fortunate to be able to work with 13 Ferry Advisory Committees (FAC) located in communities up and down the coast of British Columbia. These committees are typically made up of 8-12 volunteer members who represent the ferry-dependent communities we serve. Ferry Advisory Committees play a fundamental role in facilitating information sharing between communities and BC Ferries. The committees provide important advice and insight that helps inform day-to-day operations, terminal and vessel improvements, schedule changes, and other initiatives.
