Berth 5 Project Successfully Completed

We are excited to announce the successful completion of the Swartz Bay Berth 5 upgrades! After several months of construction, Berth 5 has reopened following successful vessel fit tests. During this second phase of work, our project team focused on the following key areas:

  • Installing the new dolphin line, essential berthing infrastructure.

  • Removing the underwater rock to deepen the berth for larger vessels.

  • Conducting vessel fit tests.

The purpose of this project, as described when first introduced, was to remove the rock outcropping at the entrance of Berth 5 allowing the Salish Class ferries, which sit deeper in the water than their predecessor the Mayne Queen, to enter and exit the berth safely. This work, now complete will help reduce berth congestion for all vessels in Swartz Bay, improving on-time performance and overall customer experience.

We appreciate the continued patience and understanding shown by the community as our projects team and contractor completed this essential work, which will allow Berth 5 to provide safe and reliable service for years to come.

Lands End Terminal Building – work on track

The Lands End Terminal building work continues, with interior and exterior work continuing to progress. As we reach sunnier weather, the project team will begin exterior painting. This work has no impact on customer services, with the Lands End Café remaining open throughout construction.
