Project Update - March 8, 2022

No Changes to Regular Schedules for the Southern Gulf Islands This Summer

Southern Gulf Island schedules will remain status quo for the 2022 summer season. We recognize that over the pandemic there have been changes in ferry travel patterns and usage, as well as the composition of Southern Gulf Island communities. As we come out of these challenging times, we have decided to maintain existing schedules to minimize disruption and give people time to recalibrate. We will closely monitor how the schedules are performing and consider changes once we see how residents and visitors adjust.

We anticipate introducing a Salish ferry into service on the route this summer. In the interim, the Mayne Queen and the Queen of Cumberland will continue to provide service to the Southern Gulf Islands.

Thank you to our Ferry Advisory Committees

We would like to thank the Southern Gulf Islands and Salt Spring Island Ferry Advisory Committees for their tireless efforts in reviewing schedule options for the Southern Gulf Islands routes. We clearly heard from them about the significant impact schedule changes may have on businesses and residents, and about the desire to keep things as close as possible to what is in place today.

Thank you for participating in engagement efforts

We would also like to thank the over 2,500 community members who provided input during engagement efforts about new schedules. Our engagement process and timelines have been dynamic as we have adjusted to the changing realities of COVID on our business and our ability to engage with the community. We appreciate your participation and interest, and we will continue to monitor schedule performance over the coming months and keep you updated on any future engagement opportunities.
