Purpose of dock fit tests
Prior to entering service between Quadra and Cortes Islands, the Island Nagalis must undergo dock fit tests at the new berths at Heriot Bay and Whaletown. This process is crucial to:
- Ensure that the vessel can safely dock, as well as load and unload vehicles without issue.
- Verify that all critical dimensions, such as the overlap between the vessel and the berth's apron, conform to BC Ferries standards and safety requirements.
- Assess terminal infrastructure and confirm that facilities such as shore power, potable water supply, and tie-up lines are properly arranged to support vessel operations.
Ensuring these elements are in place is essential to guarantee operational safety and efficiency.
Thank you for your patience and understanding while we complete this required testing.
