October engagement summary and update
Thank you to everyone who attended the in-person engagement sessions on Quadra and Cortes on October 24 and 25, 2025. During the sessions, we provided an overview of the Heriot Bay and Whaletown Terminal Projects and information about the alternate service planned for February-March 2026.

Closure and alternate service update
The closure window is February 9 – March 1, 2026. During the terminal closures, BC Ferries will provide the following alternate service between Cortes and Quadra.
Foot-passenger water taxi
BC Ferries will be providing a foot-passenger water taxi service between Mansons Landing (Cortes Island) and Heriot Bay Government Dock (Quadra Island) during the closure.
- Water taxis will have a 40-person capacity
- There will be six round trips per day between Mansons Landing and Heriot Bay
- Additional space will be available to transport items such as bicycles, strollers, and mobility aids
The water taxi will operate following the schedule below subject to change:

Shuttle service
BC Ferries will be offering a shuttle service (schedule TBD) from Heriot Bay Government Dock to Quathiaski Cove.
- This service will be complimentary
- Additional space will be made available to transport passenger goods
Barge / landing craft (commercial & dangerous goods)
BC Ferries will be providing a barge / landing craft service to transport essential goods and services between Gorge Harbour (Cortes Island) and Heriot Bay Government Dock (Quadra Island) during the berth closure. We understand the impacts the berth closures can have on the community and we are committed to working with our commercial customers, to ensure the ensure the flow of goods and services with the following:
Barge / landing craft service (Monday to Saturday)
- Food deliveries – fresh and frozen foods
- Fuel deliveries (diesel fuel, heating oil, propane)
- Critical repair services (utilities)
- Perishable products (mussels/livestock)
- Medical services
- Animal feed
- Hearse
- Couriers
- Waste management vehicles
Dangerous Goods (Tuesdays)
Note: Commercial vehicle types are all those that are registered 5,500 kg/GVW or greater (subject to tidal restriction and dock limitation).
Special booking requests
The barge / landing craft service will be for essential service only with a provision to accommodate other use when capacity permits.
Please note:
- Advance booking is required for commercial vehicles. The online booking request webpage will be available in January 2026 prior to the alternate service period commencing.
- Subject to availability and approval, the barge may be available to transport passenger vehicles under special circumstances.
- There will be an online booking form and phone number provided to submit special requests in early January 2026.
- Submitting a request does not guarantee space for the passenger vehicle on the barge.
- Individuals on the waitlist will be contacted if space becomes available.
