Construction and Alternate Service Plan Update
As part of our ongoing commitment to providing safe and reliable service, construction work at Crofton Terminal continues. To support critical construction activities and key project milestones, there following sailings will be cancelled and foot-passenger water-taxi will be provided:
Planned Sailing Cancellations:
- October 18 to December 10, 2026
- Sunday through Thursday (Friday and Saturday last-sailings are not impacted)
- 9:30pm departing Vesuvius Bay
- 10:00pm departing Crofton
Regular service will resume on Friday, December 11, 2026.
Cancelling the final sailing from Sunday to Thursday will provide longer overnight work windows, allowing crews to complete important construction while minimizing impacts to customers travelling during the day.
During these cancellations, a foot passenger-only water taxi service will be available for the last round-trip sailing to maintain travel between the communities. More information including details about parking and drop off, accessibility and assistance, and capacity of the foot passenger-only water taxi, will be coming soon. We advise all travellers to check the schedule for their desired route in advance of travel, the schedule for Crofton - Vesuvius is available here.
As construction advances, some work will need to take place overnight. Customers and nearby residents may notice increased activity and periodic construction noise. Every effort will be made to minimize disruption and complete the work safely and efficiently.
Looking Ahead: January Berth Closure
To complete a key phase of construction, a seven-day berth closure is expected in January 2027, with dates tentatively planned for January 17 to 24, 2027. During this period, regular service on the route will be temporarily suspended while crews complete critical berth upgrades.
To help inform planning for the closure, BC Ferries has been engaging with essential service providers, commercial clients, local governments, and other key community partners to identify important considerations and potential impacts. You can view the presentation from these information sessions here.
We are currently reviewing feedback and operational requirements to finalize alternate service plans for January. A summary of key considerations, along with planned mitigations and the January alternate service details, will be shared once complete. To help support alternate service planning, we welcome your insights which can be sent to engagement@bcferries.com for consideration.
As work continues, additional adjustments to terminal operations or sailing schedules may be required. We will provide advance notice of any impacts whenever possible and thank customers and the community for their patience as these important improvements move forward.
