Draft Terminal Concept
We are pleased to share with you the draft concept that's been developed for Sturdies Bay terminal which sets out some of the key issues and opportunities to improve the terminal.
We invite you to review the concept, engage in an interactive online conversation and provide your ideas or comments. Your feedback is valuable and will be used to help develop a refined concept that will help guide our long-term planning and terminal development in future years.
This potential terminal concept will help to guide the 25-year vision for the Sturdies Bay terminal.
It is a phaseable concept with potential improvements in three key areas: marine, uplands and roadway. This concept offers the following key features:
- Trestle replacement is required as it is nearing end-of-life (no change to the berth in near to long-term)
- Traffic safety, pedestrian safety, and transfer traffic are key issues to be addressed
- Additional holding area required for peak and future conditions, but there are space constraints
Seaward expansion was reviewed, but is not being pursued at this time due to cost, permitting, environmental, archaeological and sea level rise challenges.
